CRATE TRAINING TIP

Updated: Apr 6, 2021

When crate training your dog or pup, make sure only good stuff happens in the crate and keep what’s going on outside the crate super boring.

Good stuff: • Meals (breakfast and dinner) • Meaty bone • Pigs ear/cow hoof/deer antler • Stuffed Kong • Snuffle mat / Licky mat • Puzzle games / treat dispensing balls or wobblers • Frozen carrot or apple piece • Comfy bed • Favourite toy or blankie • (Don’t forget water)

Make sure you’re training at a quiet time with low distractions. If there’s a lot going on outside the crate your dog may find it overwhelming or he might just prefer to get out and join in. Ideal times are when you are nearby watching TV, reading a book, working on your laptop, or having a quiet cuppa.

Once he’s really loving his crate, you can gradually start to introduce distractions and distance.

You will most likely start finding your dog in his crate when you haven’t even asked him to!
