From the moment you bring your puppy home to the day they leave you, it’s all about balance.
They need to be able to move with you out in the world, but they also need to learn to be separate from you.
They need physical and mental outlets appropriate for their age, breed and personality, but they also need plenty of downtime.
They need engagement with you, but they also need to be able to observe calmly from the sidelines.
They need to able to be around other dogs, people, sights and sounds, but not always engage.
They need love, but they also need boundaries, structure and rules to ensure they can be successful in your world.
They need food, shelter and health care unconditionally, but they also need to learn to earn.
They need to have fun, be a dog, but they also need to be accountable for their choices.
They need to be accountable, but they also need tolerance, understanding and acceptance from you.
All of this is down to you.
It is a responsibility and commitment every day for their lifetime. It takes work.
